Jonathan Yates

Jonathan Yates was born in Shanklin, Isle of Wight in 1948. He was educated at Fairway Secondary School, Sandown, and joined the Royal Marines Band Service in June 1962 as a cornet and violin player. Having gained the Education Prize, and the Cornet Progress Prize during training, he gave up the violin to concentrate on the cornet and trumpet.

In 1966 he joined the Home Fleet Band at HMS Pembroke, Chatham. Over the following seven years he served with the Bands of HMS Victorious, HMS Hermes, HMS Daedalus, HMS Excellent, and HMS Eagle, during which time he travelled to many parts of the world, including North America, the West Indies, the Indian Ocean, Russia and Africa.… Read the rest

Mark Upton

Mark began studying the trumpet at the age of six, encouraged by his parents (themselves both successful trumpet players). Mark spent his school years playing in local brass bands, orchestras, big bands and soul bands.

In 1996 he was awarded the prestigious White Cliffs Arts Award for Outstanding Student of the Arts by the Local council. In 1997 Mark joined the Royal Marines Band Service where his outstanding ability was quickly recognized. Sarah Heard, Saxophone & Flute

Sarah grew up in Hartland, Devon, Her first musical instrument was the recorder at the age of six. When she was eight Sarah began to learn the flute which she played in the Triggshire Wind Orchestra and Cornwall Youth Wind Orchestra.

Later she loaned a tenor saxophone from the Triggshire Wind Orchestra, changing to the alto when she began studying at the University of Southampton in 2003.
